Washington Sundar pips Hardik Pandya to win fielder's medal in Bangladesh T20Is

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar pipped Hardik Pandya for the Impact Fielder of the series award in their 3-T20I outing against Bangladesh, Washington beat Hardik and Riyan Parag to clinch the medal.

India all-rounder Washington Sundar pipped Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag to win the Impact Fielder of the Series award. Washington was lauded by fielding coach T Dilip for cutting out angles in the outfield against the Najmul Shanto side.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India posted a BTS of the dressing room ceremony on Sunday, October 13, a day after the team's incredible win against Bangladesh. The Indian team showed incredible energy in the field in all matches, with Hardik Pandya being electric in the field.

Dilip lauded Hardik as the Formula 1 car in the group and hailed Riyan Parag for his energy. Dilip further hailed the brotherhood in the Indian team, who showed stunning support to youngsters Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who debuted in the series.

Washington Sundar spoke after clinching the medal. Sundar said that the always gave his 100 per cent in the field.

"This honestly feels amazing. I try and give my 100 percent whenever I am on the field. And everyone can contribute on the field, no matter what is the situation. Very very grateful for this, thanks to T Dilip sir and the entire support staff," Washington Sundar said after the match.

Sundar picked 3 wickets in the series and bowled at an incredible economy of just 5 runs over over.

After India set a record total of 297 runs, the remainder of the game became a mere formality. Bangladesh managed to surpass just the halfway mark, ending their innings at 164, while India secured a dominant 133-run victory in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Sanju Samson was the standout performer, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a T20I century. It’s rare for Suryakumar Yadav to be overshadowed in a T20I innings, but with his explosive 111 off 47 balls, Samson achieved just that. Hardik Pandya also made a significant contribution, adding a quickfire 47 runs from just 18 balls, helping India surpass their previous best T20I total by 37 runs.

While Bangladesh was never truly in contention, India’s bowlers were relentless, and their fielders gave their all, even in what was effectively a dead rubber. Ravi Bishnoi stood out with three wickets on his return to the T20I side, while Mayank Yadav, who played in all three matches of the series, contributed with two wickets.
