Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel heaped praise on star batter Virat Kohli for his composed yet brisk performance on Day 4 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur on September 30. Patel lauded Kohli for his quickfire 47 off 35 balls, noting that the innings reflected shades of his usual control and resilience at the crease.

After rain washed out Days 2 and 3 of the match, fans finally got to witness some action on Day 4. India, having bowled out Bangladesh for 233, came out with an aggressive approach in their second innings. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma unleashed a flurry of boundaries from the very start, setting a high tempo for the innings. However, as quick wickets fell, Kohli walked out and took control with his signature composure. Though he adopted a similarly aggressive approach, his shot selection and poise stood out, making him a vital cog in India’s push for a lead.

"We know how good a batter Virat Kohli is. I think everything said and done, the wicket wasn't that easy to score these kind of runs. But I thought Virat Koli looked great. He was timing the ball really well. I thought he was using his feet Well, but yeah, he did get that lucky escape here, but I don't know how they missed it? But sometimes you need that," Parthiv Patel told JioCinema.

"But I think, other than that, I thought Virat Kohli looked in good touch. He was timing the ball really well. We saw how well he used his feet against the two (Bangladesh) spinners and played those big shots. But you know, whatever we know of Virat Kohli we saw today," Parthiv Patel added.

Kohli narrowly missed what could have been his fastest Test fifty, but his contribution helped India gain a crucial 52-run lead before they declared their innings. Patel emphasised that this knock was a reminder of Kohli’s dominance in Test cricket, showcasing not only his ability to adapt to different match situations but also his hunger for runs.

Kohli’s innings in Kanpur came after a relatively quiet first Test, where he managed just 6 and 17 in his two outings. His performance in the second Test marked a return to form and gave fans a glimpse of the "Kohli we know," as Patel put it, signaling that the ace batter is still capable of taking charge in the longest format of the game.
