Anthony Martial has joined AEK Athens on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United in June, ending a nine-year spell with the Premier League side. The Greek club confirmed the signing on Thursday, with the 28-year-old forward penning a contract until 2027 and taking the number 26 shirt at the 13-time Greek champions.

While the financial terms weren’t officially disclosed, British reports suggest that Martial will earn £2.5 million ($3.32 million) annually, making him one of AEK's highest-paid players. During his time at Manchester United, Martial scored 90 goals in 317 appearances across all competitions, contributing to the club's successes in the Europa League, FA Cup, and two League Cups. However, his final appearance came in December, as injuries often limited his playing time in recent years.

Martial was then allowed to leave Manchester United after his contract had expired in the summer.

"PAE AEK announces the acquisition of football player Anthony Martial. The international French striker signed a cooperation contract with our team until the summer of 2027," read the statement from the club's official website.

What did Martial say?

Martial commented about his move and said he was very happy to join the Greek club. The French forward said he would give his best to achieve things, win trophies and bring joy to his new side.

"I am very happy. AEK is an opportunity for me and I will give my best to achieve things, win trophies and bring joy to the world of the team," said Martial.

Martial joins an AEK squad that also added former Tottenham and Sevilla midfielder Erik Lamela this summer. The team currently sits atop the Super League Greece table with 10 points from four games as they prepare to face Kallithea on Sunday.
