Afghanistan and Bangladesh are set to face each other in the second game of the three-match ODI series on Saturday, November 9 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Afghans made a dream start to their campaign in the series after winning the series opener on Wednesday by a huge margin of 92 runs.
After opting to bat first, Afghanistan put up a reasonable score of 235 in 49.4 overs. 39-year-old Mohammad Nabi was the star of the show after he made 84 runs off 79 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi also did his part with a handy 52-run knock.
Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman picked up four wickets apiece. Shoriful Islam only got the wicket of Rashid Khan, but gave away only 34 runs in 9.4 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz could not make a breakthrough, but did not let the Afghan batters get on top of him.
Bangladesh started handsomely in their run-chase, but lost wickets after Allah Ghazanfar picked up six wickets. Ghazanfar won the Player of the Match award after finishing with figures of 6.3-1-26-6. From once being at 120 for three, the Tigers were bowled out for 143 in 34.3 overs.
Skipper Najmul Shanto scored 47 runs off 68 balls while Mehidy and Soumya Sarkar made 28 and 33 respectively. The likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad faltered.
