Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in the Indian Super League on Saturday, with left-back Nathan Rodrigues scoring the equalizer for the Islanders in the 1,000th match of the ISL.

Chennaiyin FC's captain, Ryan Edwards, gave his team the lead in the 60th minute with a well-placed header. However, the advantage was short-lived as Rodrigues struck just three minutes later to restore parity for Mumbai City.

As a result of the draw, Chennaiyin FC moved up from seventh to fourth place in the standings, now on 12 points, while Mumbai City FC remained in eighth with 10 points.

The game started with an early attempt from Yoell van Nieff in the 19th minute. The midfielder unleashed a powerful long-range shot that tested Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz, but the effort narrowly missed the target.

The visitors responded a minute later when Tiri rose highest during a corner, sending a powerful header towards goal, but it was just wide of the mark.

Mumbai City continued to press, with Nikolaos Karelis finding a chance inside the box in the 30th minute. The Greek forward pounced on a loose ball but his shot lacked the necessary accuracy to find the back of the net, leaving Chennaiyin's defense unscathed.

It wasn't until the second half that either team found the breakthrough.

Chennaiyin FC took the lead in the 60th minute, when Connor Shields delivered a precise cross into the box. Edwards rose above the Mumbai defenders to meet the ball with a powerful header, placing it perfectly into the bottom right corner of the net to give Chennaiyin the advantage.

But Mumbai responded swiftly. Just three minutes later, a corner from Van Nieff found Rodrigues, who timed his jump perfectly. The Mumbai left-back connected with the ball and sent a powerful header into the top right corner, leveling the score at 1-1.

Both teams threw everything forward in search of a winner, but despite their best efforts, neither side was able to break the deadlock, and the game ended in a draw.
