Pakistan captain Shan Masood was presented with a special jersey by the PCB on completing 2000 Test runs. Masood scored a scintillating hundred on Day 1 of 1st Test vs England.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood was presented with a special jersey on completing 2000 Test runs. The special jersey was presented by the Pakistan Cricket Board which has "Shan 2000" engraved on it. The token of appreciation by PCB was presented during the team dinner after day 1 of the 1st Test between Pakistan and England in Multan. Pakistan Test team coach Jason Gillispie also addressed the team and lauded the players for their efforts on the opening day of the Test match.

Shan Masood marked a major milestone in his Test career by surpassing 2,000 runs during his brilliant 151-run knock against England on Day 1 of the first Test in Multan. Walking in under pressure and scrutiny from the local media, Masood silenced his critics with a commanding performance that put Pakistan in a strong position. His knock not only showed his class but also reaffirmed his importance to the team as captain.

Masood became the 34th Pakistani cricketer to reach the 2,000 Test-run mark. He achieved this feat in his 36th Test match and 67th innings, maintaining an average of 30.35. His innings of 151 was his fifth Test century and his second against England. This knock also ended his 1,524-day wait for a hundred in the longest format, with his previous ton coming back in 2020 against the same opposition in Manchester, where he scored a career-best 156.

A big milestone for Shan Masood

The elegant left-hander took just 102 balls to reach his century, making it the second-fastest hundred by a Pakistan captain in Tests. He now follows Misbah-ul-Haq, who holds the record for the fastest century by a Pakistan skipper. Masood’s century also made him only the third Pakistani captain, after Inzamam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, to hit a Test hundred against England at home.

During his knock, Masood displayed a fine mix of patience and aggression. He initially took his time to get set but then started to play more freely, attacking the England bowlers and building a solid partnership with Abdullah Shafique. His 151 runs were laced with 13 fours and two sixes, showcasing his intent to dominate the bowling attack.

Although he was dismissed by Jack Leach in the 63rd over, Masood’s innings laid a solid foundation for Pakistan in the Test series opener. With this landmark, Shan Masood has reinforced his stature as one of Pakistan’s key batters in red-ball cricket, and his performance sets the tone for the rest of the series.
