Mehidy Hasan Miraz revealed a funny incident when he was stung by a bee while batting during Bangladesh’s second Test against India at the Green Park in Kanpur. On Day 4, Mehidy played a handy knock of 20 off 42 balls with four fours before Jasprit Bumrah induced a false stroke from him.

Mehidy was also involved in a partnership of 54 runs with Mominul Haque Showrabh, whose unbeaten 107-run knock helped Bangladesh score 233 in their first innings. On the incident, Mehidy said that he could only feel the pain of the bee sting after playing a shot.

“I didn’t know that the bee was inside me. After I played the shot, it stung me, and then I got to know about it and felt the pain,” Mehidy said in the press conference after the day’s play.

‘Shakib had told us about his decision’

Mehidy also said that Shakib Al Hasan had been contemplating retirement from Tests for a long time. It was on September 26 when the 27-year-old Shakib said that he wanted to retire from the purest format after Bangladesh’s home Test against South Africa in Mirpur.

“Shakib bhai told about it earlier and we knew it. He had told us about his plans to retire from Test cricket. It’s not that he took the decision all of a sudden. It has to go through a process, he had to talk to the team management and discussed it with the players and that’s how we accepted him,” Mehidy added.

Mehidy had a decent day in the office after he finished with figures of 6.4-0-41-4. He also became the fourth Bangladeshi bowler after Shakib, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mustafizur Rahman to pick up 300 wickets in internationals.

At Stumps on Day 4, Bangladesh trailed by 26 runs with Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque as their overnight batters.
