  • He was overlooked by selectors for India vs Bangladesh T20I series

Tilak Varma and Rohit Sharma’s daughter share a great bond, and that was evident from Ritka Sajdeh’s latest Instagram story. Mumbai Indians batter Tialak Varma and Samaira Sharma took a slide ride at an indoor playing area and Ritika shared an Instagram story with the caption, “Who’s a bigger kid.” The 21-year-old is very close to Samaira. When Tilak scored his maiden T20I fifty in only his second international match, he dedicated it to Samaira. The Indian southpaw won hearts for his fifty celebration during the 2nd T20I against West Indies last year. He came up with a sweet gesture for Rohit's daughter Samaira when he completed his half-century.

"It was towards Sammy, Rohit bhai's daughter," he told reporters after India's match against the West Indies. "I am very close to Sammy. I had promised her that whenever I will score a century or a fifty, I will do a celebration for her," he added. The 20-year-old smashed five fours and 1 six in his entertaining knock against the West Indies. After the match, the Indian batter also gave India captain Rohit Sharma a special mention.

Tilak Varma overlooked by selectors

It seemed like Tilak Varma bolstered his chances of staying in the scheme of things for the Indian selectors with an unbeaten 111 in the Duleep Trophy 2024. However, he was overlooked by the BCCI for India’s T20I squad vs Bangladesh. India’s 15-member squad for the T20I series was announced, led by Suryakumar Yadav. With the likes of Varun Chakravarthy making a return and Mayank Yadav earning his maiden India call-up, Tilak couldn’t find a place in the team. Players like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Riyan Parag were given preference over the 21-year-old.

Tilak has played 16 T20Is for Indai so far with 336 runs to his name, which includes two fifties and a strike rate of 139.41. He also played four ODIs with just 68 runs to his name, which includes a half-century. His last T20I appearance was during the 1st T20I between India and Afghanistan earlier this year.
