Saim Ayub was at his stupendous best when the Panthers met the Stallions in Match No.9 of the Pakistan Champions Cup on Saturday, September 21 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. The left-handed batter hammered 156 runs off 130 balls with the help of 13 fours and seven sixes.

After opting to bat first, the Panthers racked up a huge score of 326 for the loss of seven wickets. Skipper Saim and Azam Awais put on a partnership of 138 runs for the opening wicket off 25.4 overs. Saim started fluently and got to his half-century off 45 balls.

He kept going at the same pace and racked up his hundred off 92 balls. The southpaw got to his three-figure score with a boundary off Jahandad Khan through the off-side. From there on, he kicked on and made sure that the Panthers got past the 300-run mark comfortably.

After his opening stand with Awais, Saim joined hands with the dangerous Usman Khan and built a partnership of 116 runs for the second wicket. Usman raced his way to 75 off 47 balls with eight fours and four sixes before Zaman Khan accounted for his wicket.

Once Usman departed, Saim took charge and used the long handle to good effect in the death overs. Zaman Khan picked up four wickets, but leaked 90 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

After his incredible knock against the Stallions, Saim moved to fourth in the list of leading run-scorers in the Champions Cup. In four games, the young batter has scored 192 runs at an average of 48 and a strike-rate of 108.47.

He found the going tough in the first three matches getting scores of 20, six and 10 against Markhors, Dolphins and Lions respectively. But the knock against the Stallions would have done his confidence a world of good.
