Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was in awe of Shubman Gill's temperament and calmness en route his 5th Test hundred. Gill shut down the critics as he notched up a brilliant hundred on Day 3 of the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Tamim acknowledged the sense of calmness which Gill carried throughout his innings and praised his authoritative shots against the Bangladesh bowlers. The 2nd innings expert, Gill, scored an unbeaten 119 from 176 balls with 10 fours and four sixes.

"I think this is a calmness towards him. Even after reaching the hundred. Whatever balls he faced, there was always a calmness towards him. And I think he played some excellent shots. Played up a lovely, lovely innings. Yes, they're talking about Rishabh Pant, the sixes and the fours. But how well Gill has batted? I cannot forget the full shot that he played yesterday. It is unbelievable. And the drives and the calmness. The best part was the whole calmness. It seems to me I don't know him personally, but he seems to be a very calm man," Tamim told Jio Cinema.

Shubman Gill's spectacular hundred

Shubman Gill, alongside Rishabh Pant, shared a 167-run stand from 217 balls to help India declare at 287/4 in their 2nd innings. Gill looked confident from the start after his early dismissal for a duck in the 1st innings. He went onto become the 1st Indian batter to score a hundred against Bangladesh after scoring a duck in the initial innings. This was Gill's second hundred in his last 4 outings in the second innings for India.

Gill-Pant lead India's charge

He started off the 3rd day at 33 and after some early caution, he blazed away with two sixes off Mehidy Hasan to reach his fifty. After that, Pant and Gill started dominating the Bangladesh bowlers and reached their respective hundreds, earning applause from the Indian team. Gill played a great knock, further solidifying his position as India's No. 3 Test batter.

There was a sense of maturity and confidence in him when he took down the Bangladesh bowlers. The rising star also surpassed Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal to take the 2nd spot in the list of most centuries by an Indian batter in World Test Championship.
