All Black star Jordie Barrett, bound for Leinster in December, is awaiting scan results after limping off against Australia on Saturday.

In a worrying sight for both New Zealand and Blues fans, Barrett injured his left knee in the first half of the All Black's 31-28 victory in the Bledisloe Cup.

The immediate worry for New Zealand is Barrett's fitness for next weekend's rematch with the Aussies in Wellington.

But Leinster will also be concerned that their marquee signing could face a long spell on the sidelines.

Barrett is set to join Leo Cullen's side on a short-term deal in December but was seen limping and wearing a knee brace after the match.

"He's sore, scan tomorrow," New Zealand coach Scott Robertson told media in Sydney ahead of the team's flight back to New Zealand.

"Look it's one of those you have to scan to get a feel of it, and the Barretts heal pretty quickly."

Barrett, 27, who will return to Super Rugby side the Hurricanes after his spell with Leinster, has exercised the right of New Zealanders to play abroad for six months during their careers.

The versatile back told earlier this year of his excitement at experiencing a different rugby culture in Dublin.

“[Money] is certainly a serious component,” Barrett said of the move.

“For different individuals, that can be at the top of the tree or somewhere a little further down.

“I put my development and my experiences, and my thinking of coming back and trying to be a better rugby player and a better All Black and a better Hurricane, right at the top of that tree. That took priority over all the other options I had.

“My eyes were only ever heading towards Japan and having a wee stint there.

“But Leinster put an offer forward, and basically just the prestige of their club and what they’ve done in the past and the direction they’re heading in the future really stuck out and excited me.”
