Malmo FF v Rangers: Head of security concerned about ‘risk’ of rival fans attending EL clash

Philippe Clement and Rangers will travel to Sweden to take on Malmo FF in the Europa League on Thursday.

According to Fotbollskanalen, Clement’s side are entitled to receive 5% of the tickets. They say around 1,000 Rangers fans are expected to arrive at the Eleda Stadion.

Malmo’s rival Helsingborgs IF are currently in the second division. There are concerns over HIF fans attending tomorrow’s clash against Rangers.

That’s at least what Malmo head of security Peter Narbe has told Sydsvenskan, relayed by Fotbollskanalen.

“There may be a risk that they want to present themselves in a negative way,” he said.

The Swedish top division club are worried that the HIF fans may have bought tickets in the home section for the clash against Rangers.

According to the Malmo official, there is a connection between HIF supporters and the Rangers fans. He adds this could be a risk when Malmo host the Scottish club in the Europa League.

“We know there’s a ‘friendship’ there. There may be a risk that they want to present themselves in a negative way. We are aware of that,” Narbe explained.

“It is likely that there will be HIF supporters who bought tickets in the home section. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re behaving badly; it’s important to point out.”

This may not cause concerns to Rangers or their supporters for Thursday’s European tie in Sweden.

Rangers were demoted to the Europa League after losing in the Champions League qualifiers against Dynamo Kiev 3-1 on aggregate last month.
