Nation ‘went out of their way’ to get Manchester City youngster – Effort has paid off
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessGuatemala ‘went out of their way’ to secure Manchester City youngster Lucas Alvarado, a decision that proved to be a smart one.
AS cover the country’s efforts today after it was announced that the 15-year-old goalkeeper would be representing the Guatemalan national team in future.
The newspaper reports that Alvarado, who is considered ‘one of the most promising goalkeepers in the world’ has decided to represent the Central American country in future.
Alvarado was born in England and has represented the Three Lions before now, but the Guatemalan Federation went out of their way to secure him.
They’ve made it a primary objective to attract young talent for the future and raise the level of their senior team in the coming years. The Manchester City youngster is the first success story on that front.
He has a grandfather with Guatemalan nationality, which caught the attention of Guatemala’s FA, who had meetings with the family and showed them their development program. They even toured the countries sports facilities, where Alvarado will be trained in future.
That was seemingly enough to convince the highly rated Manchester City youngster, who will now represent the country in future.
Guatemala have already announced that publically and Alvarado will likely be in the country’s squad for the U-17 World Cup in February 2025 while the plan is for him to be the ‘leader of the generation’ in future.
