Santiago Giménez explains why he snubbed move to Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest wanted to sign Santiago Giménez in the summer window and made multiple offers to Feyenoord. The Premier League side’s last proposal ended up convincing the Dutch club.

The deal didn’t go through because the striker wasn’t in favour of joining the Reds. He was criticised by a section of the Dutch media for refusing to join Nottingham Forest.

Feyenoord manager Brian Priske was trying to help the 23-year-old regain his best form before he suffered an injury last month.

Speaking to Fox Sports Mexico, Giménez has now confirmed Nottingham Forest made an approach for him in the last window. The player wasn’t completely convinced about joining Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, which is why he turned them down.

“Yes, there were interests, there were approaches, but in the end, we had two offers on the table. The one that aired was from Nottingham and the truth is that we had many doubts,” he said.

Nottingham Forest fought to avoid relegation in the last two seasons. Feyenoord, on the other hand, are playing in the Champions League this season. The Mexico international is pleased to have not accepted a move to the Premier League side.

On his decision to continue at the Eredivisie side, Giménez explained: “I decided to stay at Feyenoord for another year because of the Champions League and because there was still a market left and there were approaches from other clubs.

“In the end, it was not possible to leave. It’s not bad news to stay and I’m very happy at Feyenoord.”

The frontman, who has four goals and two assists this season, has left the door open for a future move to England.

“I don’t like one league more than another. There are four that I love: German, English, Italian and Spanish. That’s what I would like to aspire to,” he stressed.
