Meanwhile, former United coach Benni McCarthy said: 'That was absolutely unnecessary and you shouldn’t have to deal with such behavior. Stay strong bro and behind you all the way.'

Flex, who has 230,000 followers on X, went on to publish a video highlighting the importance of calling out racist behaviour.

He said: 'The solidarity shown by every single one of you... that has been amazing. When you are black and this does happen to you, male or female, it takes a lot out of you, man. I'm tired. But at the same time, you don't stop.

'In 2024, as you saw by the reaction, I was stunned. And I'm not stunned racism exists. I'm thick-skinned, every black person knows, and every person who isn't racist knows racism exists.

'But just at how overtly racist the incident was. You feel blindsided - they're one of you at the start - obviously the individual isn't with the views that they have - but they come across as one of you, singing United ones, lure you in thinking it's just someone having a good time, and then you get caught blindsided with that.

'Watching it back was difficult for me because that genuine shock on my face of when it switches, you're in that moment, and a lot of you guys watched it back and thought: did they actually just say that?

'I want to clarify this. Listen to me: she absolutely said what she said. There is no circumnavigating or working around it. People need to be held accountable for the things that they do and say.

'I heard it, you can hear it, and to all of the peple that were around me... we all heard it.

'It is shocking. You think, "nah, they must not have said that," which was my reaction at the point, so I can understand why some of you lot have that.  But she definitely used the n-word in the context that she used it in.

Former Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy encouraged Flex to 'stay strong'

'I've dealt with racist incidents before. it's not the first and definitely not the last. It's important to allow these people to be accountable.

'I hope she gets the repercussions and consequences that's deserved for that - it's about educating people and being able to understand that if you hold these views and you're stupid enough to make them public in front of thousands of people, then you're going to be held accountable.'
