Congress MP Rahul Gandhi retains membership of Parliament's Standing Committee on Defence, while actor-politician and first-time parliamentarian Kangana Ranaut of the BJP is assigned to the committee on Information Technology, the Rajya Sabha said.

Rahul Gandhi will join the Defence Affairs Committee, while Kangana Ranaut is appointed to the Communications and IT panel, as the Parliament restructured 24 of its standing committees.

Parliament restructured standing committees, assigning prominent leaders across parties. Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Mishra are members of the committee.

Parliament's standing committees were constituted on Thursday with BJP's Bhartruhari Mahtab to helm the key panel on Finance and Congress' Shashi Tharoor to head the panel on External Affairs.
