A fire broke out at a chemical godown of the electronics component factory of Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd in Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

The fire started in the mobile phone accessories painting unit of the company around 5.30 am on Saturday. Around 1,500 workers were on shift when the incident took place.

Seven fire tenders from Hosur and nearby places were rushed to Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd to contain the blaze and firefighters battled for hours before bringing the situation under control.

Production at the plant was reportedly halted temporarily due to the blaze. Indian media outlets said nobody was harmed in the fire and the incident is now being investigated.

Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd said the employees were safe and officials are currently engaged in identifying the cause of the incident.

Tata's new facility has the potential to create over 5,000 employment opportunities (direct and indirect).
