Congress MP Rahul Gandhi asked why elderly people standing up for the future of Ladakh were being detained by the police at the Delhi border.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday criticised the Delhi Police's detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters at the Singhu border, describing it as "unacceptable."

Wangchuk said around 1,000 police personnel have been deployed at the Delhi border and they have been informed about heavy deployment of security forces at the Ladakh Bhawan in Delhi.

Sonam Wangchuk, an environmental activist from Ladakh, along with 150 protesters, were detained by the Delhi Police at the Singhu Border.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters were detained by Delhi Police at the Singhu border on Monday night. Section 163 of the BNS has been imposed at Delhi borders, said Delhi Police.

They were marching to Delhi, demanding sixth schedule status for Ladakh, when the 120 people were detained by the Police near the Delhi border.

According to an order issued from the Delhi Police Headquarters, Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has directed to impose the section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in the districts of New Delhi, North and Central and all police stations jurisdiction sharing the borders with other states.

Around 120 people from Ladakh including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had marched to the national capital demanding sixth schedule status for the Union Territory, have been detained by the Delhi Police at the city's border, police sources said.

Sonam Wangchuk was on the 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra', which was organised by the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) regarding their demands for the Sixth Schedule.
