The incident occurred on Platform number 1, ahead of the departure of Bandra-Gorakhpur Express.

According to the information released, all the injured passengers were admitted to Bhabha Hospital for treatment; however, the condition of 2 passengers is said to be critical.

The incident took place around 2:45 am when passengers rushed to board the unreserved 22921 Bandra-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express while it was moving into platform number 1 from Bandra Terminus yard.

The stampede occurred after scores of passengers heading to their hometowns tried to board a moving Gorakhpur-bound unreserved train at the Bandra Terminus.

Thane Central Railway Deputy Commissioner Manoj Nana Patil on Sunday attributed the stampede at Bandra Terminus to increased passenger rush due to the festive season and the unreserved nature of the train.
