In Florida, a proposal to restore abortion rights is likely to fall short of the 60% support needed in order to pass.

The defeat is a political victory for Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, who had become the face of a well-funded opposition campaign.

Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Florida's attempt to protect access to abortion rights narrowly failed Tuesday, while similar efforts in Arizona, Colorado, New York and Maryland succeeded.

Results were still pending in five other states with abortion measures on the ballot.

Ballot Question 6, which would enshrine protections for abortion in the Nevada Constitution, was passing by a wide margin in initial results Tuesday.
