Birmingham Airport incident - full police statement as passengers issued major warning

Police are currently dealing with a serious incident at Birmingham Airport after the Solihull travel hub was evacuated. BHX was evacuated at around 1.30pm this afternoon (October 23).

All operations at the airport were immediately suspended and passengers heading to BHX were warned to stay away. Police were pictured blocking an entrance road into the airport and all transport links were suspended.

Passengers not being allowed off flights. Some have taken to social media to say loved ones have landed and are waiting to disembark.

The airport's communication team said it would update the public "when the situation changes". West Midlands Police also posted a statement on the incident at birmingham-airport>Birmingham Airport.

Full police statement after Birmingham Airport evacuated

West Midlands Police has confirmed that the airport was evacuated following reports of a "suspicious vehicle". The force said: "This is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and staff."

BHX spokesperson wrote on social media platform X: "WMP is currently on-site dealing with an incident. Airport operations are currently suspended.

"Passengers are advised to NOT come to the airport at this time. The Airport’s social media channels will be updated as and when the situation changes."
