Key Winter Fuel Payment dates have been revealed - including he very final deadline to apply and when payments land in bank accounts. Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) £300 Winter Fuel Allowances are returning for winter - albeit with different criteria and eligibility - and it has moved to explain the six-digit code which means you're due the cash.

You can now start applying for the Winter Fuel Payment for 2024, the DWP has said. Anyone living abroad and looking to apply households can now apply via post. Applications opened on September 30. You need to fill in the winter fuel payment claim form and post it to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.

You can also apply for the benefit by phone but not until October 28. Most payments are made automatically in November or December. If you qualify, you’ll get a letter telling you how much you'll get and also which bank account it will be paid into.

For those living in England and Wales, the payment will show up in your bank account as your National Insurance (NI) number followed by "DWP WFP". Contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre if you’re eligible for a Winter Fuel Payment and you need to report a change of circumstances.

You also need to contact the DWP if you need to change your address or personal details or if you want to cancel future payments or if you want to return a payment. The DWP warns: "Report any change of circumstances as soon as possible - for example, if you stop getting a benefit, move house or move into a care home.

"These can affect how much Winter Fuel Payment you get. If you cancel your payments, you can change this at any time." When you contact the payment centre, you’ll need to tell them your personal details like your name and your address and your date of birth as well as your National Insurance number.
