The jury has retired to consider their verdict in the case of a transgender woman who has denied a number of charges of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to a fellow inmate at Limerick prison and to a prison officer on a number of dates in February, April and June of last year.

22-year-old Barbie Kardashian is charged with making a threat to rape fellow innate Tegan McGhee on 25 February last year.

She is also charged with threatening sexual violence on prison officer Róisín Linnane on dates in April and June last year.

Today, Judge Colin Daly at the Limerick Circuit Court directed the jury, of seven women and five men, to find the accused not guilty of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to Ms Linnane on 25 April.

Barbie Kardashian took the witness stand today and accepted that she did threaten fellow prisoner McGhee by threatening to rape or sexually assault her.

She told the jury that she wanted to use an electric rod to do this but it was not available to her, but that she could use the handle of a sweeping brush or a mop.

She said that Ms Linnane made nasty comments to her and was openly intimidating her.

Under cross examination by the State she did not agree she was male, but said that "unfortunately she had male genitalia".
