Woman drowns off Co Dublin coast

A woman has drowned after getting into difficulty off the coast of north Dublin this afternoon.

Emergency services were alerted after a member of the public reported a person in difficulty near the Martello tower in Portmarnock at around 3.30pm.

Howth Coast Guard, Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116, Howth lifeboat and the National Ambulance Service responded to the report.

The woman was taken from the water by Howth Coast Guard.

First aid was given and the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was taken to Beaumont hospital by the National Ambulance Service.

The woman was pronounced dead this afternoon.
