146 Israeli Women Gave Birth on Yom Kippur

Magen David Adom emergency response teams were busy in Israel on Yom Kippur, which this year fell on Shabbat. The organization’s medical response teams were called to assist in delivering 146 laboring women to hospitals across the country, including one woman from Modiin Illit who gave birth in an MDA ambulance on the way to the hospital.

During Yom Kippur, three people suffered minor shrapnel wounds in the Western Galilee, and 12 others were lightly injured while heading to shelters when Red Alert sirens sounded across the country.

MDA EMTs and paramedics were dispatched to provide medical treatment to 2,842 people nationwide, 1,969 of whom were evacuated to hospitals for further care, including 286 people who fainted, became dehydrated, or felt unwell due to fasting.

Two hundred and sixty-one people were injured and required medical treatment due to accidents involving bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards, including six in moderate condition and 255 with minor injuries.

Forty people were injured in violent incidents across the country. Among them was a 41-year-old man who was brought to meet an MDA team on Derech Anatot in Jerusalem and evacuated to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Additionally, one person was listed in serious condition, four were moderately injured, and 34 sustained mild injuries.

Forty-two people were injured in traffic accidents across the country, including 11 who were moderately inured, and 31 with minor injuries.

MDA’s Blood Services supplied 114 units and blood components to hospitals across the country during Yom Kippur.
