Schoolboy, 14, arrested for 'attempted murder' of elderly couple found stabbed in home

A police cordon remains in place on a residential street in Ashington, Northumberland after emergency services were called just before 7am this morning. They were responding to reports of a disturbance at the property.
The man and woman were rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries consistent with knife wounds. Their condition is said to be stable. A 14-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said in a statement: "We were called to an incident at a private address in Northumberland this morning (1 November) shortly before 7am. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one specialist paramedics, one duty officer and one HART crew (Hazardous Area Response Team) and two patients were taken to hospital."
In a statement, Northumbria Police said: "At 6.50am today (Friday) we received a report of a disturbance at an address on Alexandra Road, in Ashington.
"It was reported that a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s had both sustained injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article.
"Emergency services attended and both the man and woman were taken to hospital where they remain in stable conditions.
"A full investigation is underway and officers have arrested a male – aged 14 – on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.
"Officers remain at the scene to carry out enquiries and there is no wider risk to the public.
