A woman has shared an incredibly quick and easy hack for ensuring hair care products last longer and that not one bit of them goes to waste - and we're floored we haven't tried it sooner

A woman has shared a quick and easy hack to help ensure much loved hair products last longer.

Keeping hair looking fresh and not greasy in between washes can be tricky, especially for those with more oily scalps or finer hair, which can often be difficult to keep looking squeaky clean for longer periods of time.

Many people have to wash their hair every day, or every other day, to banish greasiness, so dry shampoo can be a saviour. It’s a handy product which absorbs oil and grease from the scalp without actually washing it, and is at its most useful on hair that naturally produces a lot of oil.

It’s usually made from an absorbent base of starch or alcohol, and can come in a medley of fragrances to suit the wearer’s personal style. It’s effective after exercising to help refresh hair, it helps to freshen up curly hair, and it can also extend the life of a professional hair appointment and keep the hairstylist’s talented results on show.

Of course, dry shampoo shouldn’t ever replace washing your hair with actual shampoo and water, but it’s still an essential product for many - especially if you can get the most out of it. There’s nothing more frustrating than going to spritz a little dry shampoo over your locks and finding the spray mechanism has jammed, keeping the product firmly inside the container and annoyingly out of reach.

One woman has shared the incredibly simple method she employs to get things moving again. Taking to popular social news and discussion forum Reddit, she shared her top tip in the Life Hacks sub.

She penned: “If your dry shampoo spray stops spraying with most of the product still in it, run the can [of] it under very warm water. Not the nozzle but the entire can. This increases the pressure inside and will help get the rest out. Not hot hot water though, you don’t want it to burst.”

A few other life hack aficionados offered their thoughts. One said: “You can also use a RUBBER mallet to tap/gently whack the bottom of the can to [loosen] all that compacted powder up.

“Same goes for old fire extinguishers! Turn it upside down and whack it (harder this time, but still with a rubber mallet) to break up that fire extinguishing powder. Should be more effective than not having one.”

The woman replied: “Good idea, I’ll try it!” While another person added: “Works for shaving cream, etc. Too hot and you have a mess if not worse.”

If you don’t have any dry shampoo to hand and want to refresh your hair in between washes, a few shakes of cornstarch in your hair can do the trick.
