Major update in missing Kyran Durnin case as police get bombshell message from mum
Schoolboy Kyran Durnin, eight, was reported missing in August from his home in County Louth, Ireland, but was last seen in 2022, as police tracked down his mother to East Anglia
by Antony Clements-Thrower, John Kierans · The MirrorThe mother of a young boy last seen in 2022 and is feared to have been dead has been tracked down by police - and says she does not know what happened to her son.
Kyran Durnin, eight, was reported missing in August from his home in County Louth, Ireland, along with his mum 24-year-old Dayla . This week it was reported she was located safe and well in the UK.
Now living in East Anglia, Dayla Durnin is understood to have spoken to police in England and said she does not know where her son is.
A senior Garda source told Belfast Live: "This case is so complicated and could take at least six months if not longer to crack.
"The key people involved are not co-operating. We have received a large amount of information from the public and we are checking it bit by bit. We do not know how long Kyran lived after he left his school. The family were moving around different locations and we are trying to pinpoint their exact movements.
"People are saying he went missing but nobody who was around him will tell us on what date and how exactly it happened. The child may have died as a result of an accident, we do not know but we can't get any of these answers until we find the body.”
Gardai are satisfied the child is dead but are clueless as to when he died. All they know is he was last seen alive at school in late May, early June, 2022. They have not yet established how long he lived for after that and how and when he died.
A dig at the family's former home in Dundalk was inconclusive and detectives found no remains there. However they did establish Kyran was not seen with his family at that location in the previous 12 months or so.
The Garda source added: "We have some of our top guys working this case. We will eventually get to the truth and find his body. A small number of people know exactly what happened but are not co-operating as of yet."
Police are now searching a wasteland in Drogheda - where the torso of 17-year-old Keane Mulready-Woods was located after he was savagely murdered. It is one of three locations expected to be searched this week for any evidence of the missing school boy.
Others include a property and garden on Hand Street, an area of Beechwood and the wasteland at Hillview near Rathmullan Park where the torso of murdered teen Keane Mulready-Woods was located in March 2021. Keane was last seen alive in the town on January 12, 2020.
