Tributes have been paid to mother Jade McEnroe who is believed to have been among those killed in a collision on the M6.

A GoFundMe campaign has been arranged to help support McEnroe's family after the collision resulted in the deaths of five people. The GoFundMe named Jade's partner Jarek and his two children Filip, 15, and Dominic, 7, as also having died in the crash while on their way home from Legoland.

Jade's other child Arran, 7, continues to fight for his life, according to the fundraiser. The campaign aims to raise money to ease the financial burden for both families.

Since being organised yesterday, the GoFundMe campaign has raised a total of £3,625 out of a £5,000 goal. Formal identification of the victims have not been made by the time, although police are supporting their families.

Cumbria Police said on Wednesday that officers were called to the scene of a fatal crash between a Skoda and Toyota on the major motorway, and confirmed that five people died. The crash took place on the M6 Northbound, just past Tebay Services in Cumbria, with police called to the scene at 4.04pm Tuesday afternoon.

The Skoda driver, who was initially referred to as a man from Cambridgeshire, was pronounced dead on the scene, as were all the occupants of the Toyota - a man, woman and two children from Glasgow. One person, a third child who was in the Toyota, was taken to the Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary with "serious injuries".

Four fire engines from nearby Penrith, Kendal and Shap were mobilised following the incident, and fire crews remained at the scene for several hours. The motorway reopened a few hours after the 4pm incident, and the five who died in the accident have now been named, with police continuing to appeal for information.

The M6 was closed from Junction 36 to Junction 39 as a result of the crash, as drivers were warned by police the road could be "closed for some time". Police confirmed in an appeal that the road remained closed following the crash until the "early hours of this morning", around 12 hours after the crash.

An eyewitness described the huge emergency presence at the scene, saying there was "lots of black smoke". Writing on social media, they said: "Something serious happening on M6 northbound, just passed Tebay services. Loads of blue lights going up the hard shoulder, can see lots of black smoke and looks like the air ambulance has just come in as well. I really do hope everyone's ok."

Cumbria police have asked people who may have information relating to the incident to come forward, saying in a statement: "Information can be reported online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident number 146 of 15 October 2024. You can also phone police on 101. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
