Walmart employee, 19, found dead after horrific 'large oven' accident

The young woman is understood to have died in an incident that involved a "large baking oven" - police have not confirmed the claim reported by local Canadian outlets

A teenage female Walmart employee has been found dead following a horrific accident that allegedly involved a "large baking oven."

Canadian police in Halifax, Nova Scotia, raced to the supermarket on October 19 after being alerted to reports of a "sudden death." A medical examiner will determine how the 19-year-old woman died.

Halifax Regional Police confirmed its officers were investigating the circumstances around the death at the store. A spokesperson added, officers arrived to the Mumford Road location at 9:30pm that day.

"Investigators are working closely with Occupational Health and Safety and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to determine the cause and manner of death," the spokesperson added. "The investigation is in the early stages no further details are available at this time."

The store remained closed on Monday. A cordon was also seen around the store that day.

Canada's Global News network reported that its sources claimed a large baking oven was involved in the employee's death. A police officer did not confirm the account, telling the network the investigation was "complex."

He added: "We understand the public is involved, and we just wanted to encourage the public to be patient with our investigation and be mindful that there are family members and co-workers involved."

The employee is understood to have lived in Nova Scotia for the past two or three years, according to CTV News. Police added the victim was a member of the local Sikh community in Halifax.

A Walmart Canada spokesperson told Global News, the company was "heartbroken" and saids its "deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family."

The statement added: "We’re also supporting our associates during this incredibly difficult time and have provided access to 24/7 virtual care and will provide on-site support, including grief counselling."

The Mirror has contacted the Halifax police and Walmart Canada for comment.
