A well-known Edinburgh pub has changed hands, with two friends, Robbie Ewan Wills and Tiado Puehringer, taking the reins of The Mash Tun after being fed up with low paid jobs.

The previous owners had announced their departure in July, paving the way for the duo to bring their vision to life. Following a renovation period, the pub is once again serving customers, with a launch event scheduled for September 27.

Robbie and Tiado aim to transform The Mash Tun into a quintessential 'local boozer', where residents can unwind and socialise. They plan to introduce a food menu soon, having recently hired new chefs. Tiado shared with Edinburgh Live: "About eight weeks ago we took over the pub."

"Me and Robbie have repainted the whole place, we've moved away from being a sports and football pub. We want to be a local boozer for regulars, people who want a pint in the evening.", reports Edinburgh Live. "We've just got new chefs in for food, so we'll be releasing a food menu soon."

The pair have honed their skills working at The Tourmalet, where they contributed to its popularity. They intend to bring a similar atmosphere to their new venture: "We worked there for a long time, we helped get it popular and busy. We want to incorporate that vibe here."

The entrepreneurial pair decided to launch their own venture after becoming "tired" of working for others. Tiado explained: "We both got to the point where we were working minimum wage jobs for someone else who makes a lot of money. They haven't really done all that much, the staff on the floor made the last place we worked popular. We thought, why not do our own thing where we don't have to deal with anyone else but ourselves."

"If it doesn't work out, it's nobody's fault but ours. If it does, we benefit." You've got something you can be proud of."

The Mash Tun has started serving drinks and locals are already giving it the thumbs up. The team said: "For having started eight weeks ago, things are going in the right direction." It's what we expected, a bit better even. People seem to really like what we're doing."

"They like what we've done with the space." The previous proprietors of The Mash Tun announced their departure in July, stating: "It's with a heavy heart I have to report this is the final week of the Mash Tun in its current setup."

"We will be closing after the Euro final this Sunday and handing the pub back to Heineken." As sad as it is, all good things must come to an end and it's time for someone new to come and have a go."

The pub's opening hours are from 4pm to 1am.
