Niagara Falls: Mum who jumped from waterfall with two kids posted tragic 'reason to live' message
Chaianti Means, 33, stepped over the safety railing along with her children Roman Rossman, nine, and five-month-old Mecca Means and jumped into Niagara Falls in New York State
by Ryan Fahey · The MirrorA mother who took the lives of herself and her children when she jumped from Niagara Falls on Monday had previously shared a message on Facebook about how her kids were her "reason to live".
Chaianti Means, 33, crossed a guardrail at the iconic New York State waterfall with her two children Roman Rossman, nine, and five-month-old Mecca Means in tow. Though their bodies are yet to be recovered, they plummeted to a certain death.
Messages on Chaianti's Facebook page showed that the mother had made a touching post about her love for her son when he was just two years old. In January 2017, she shared a picture that read: "I love my son! I gave him life... he gave me a reason to live." It's the only post that remains on the mother's Facebook profile.
The mother and her children reportedly stepped over the guardrail at Luna Island, a small island that sits between the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, making up part of the popular tourist attraction. Chaianti, who worked as a domestic violence councillor according to her LinkedIn profile, is understood to have lived in Niagara Falls.
Authorities have said the fall was "intentional". However they officials also confirmed that "circumstances remain under investigation". Officers have been using unmanned aircraft and underwater means as part of their ongoing investigation.
Tributes from friends appeared on the mum-of-three's Facebook page following the tragic incident. "I can’t even bare to write a post about her and share memories," read a post from Mich Molina. "I am literally sick to my stomach and I can’t even deal with the emotions I am feeling. Just know her and her children are dearly loved by me and my children. You really never know what anybody is going through….RIP," said Niesha Eukeya.
