Pictures capture scene of devastation after woman in her 50s injured in house fire

Shocking photographs from the scene of a house fire in Salford early this morning capture a scene of devastation.

The blaze broke out at the property on Montonmill Gardens, near Monton, Eccles, at around 5.15am on Tuesday and left a woman aged in her 50s in hospital injured. Police said that thankfully, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening

As a joint police and fire service investigation gets underway to determine a cause of the fire and establish exactly what happened, images from the scene show the extent of the damage caused to the property involved.

The photos show a porch roof badly charred and all the front windows blown out. Brickwork around a side window is also shown to have been charred, with firefighters captured inside and outside surveying the damage.

As reported in the Manchester Evening News, firefighters in four fire engines, police officers and paramedics descended on the scene.

A woman - aged in her 50s - was taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

A probe has now been launched into what caused the fire, with both GMP and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service investigating. Police are urging anyone with information, or anyone who has any dash cam or CCTV footage from the area at the time, to get in touch. No one else was reported as having been injured.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "We were called at 5.28am this morning (22/10/24) to reports of a fire on Montonmill Gardens in Salford. Officers alongside other emergency services attended and it was established that a woman in her 50s suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Officers are working hard to establish the cause of the fire and police are working alongside fire investigators to establish the circumstances around what happened. A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 5.15am on Tuesday 22 October, GMFRS crews were called to reports of a fire at a home on Montonmill Gardens in Eccles.

"Four fire engines from Eccles, Salford and Agecroft stations quickly attended the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"A woman has been taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). GMFRS crews remain at the scene."
