New appeal to catch gang who stole James Bond style Aston Martin from family in Didsbury

Detectives have issued a new appeal for information after a burglary of high-value cars in Didsbury. The family targeted were left so traumatised they moved back to their previous home in Glasgow.

Ryan Jenkins had moved to Manchester to open the second office of his successful business. He chose Manchester over London for the next branch of his chartered accountancy practice.

His wife and three children relocated last year from Glasgow where he opened his first office and it proved to be a smart move. The second office in St Peter's Square, has flourished.

But Ryan's home in Dene Road, Didsbury, was visited by a gang of professional car thieves in August. Last month as the impact on the family had been so great they moved back to Scotland. Dene Road is long tree-lined avenue and was one of the locations for the popular Manchester-based drama, Cold Feet

Thieves took Ryan's Aston Martin DB11 in gun metal grey - like James Bond's in the films - and his wife's distinctive black VW Tiguan R-line, which has black trim wheels. Inside the property they took cash and a Chanel handbag worth almost £9,000. The Aston Martin was later found parked in Bridgewater Road, Altrincham.

Ryan, 35, told the MEN last month: "I have three children, aged 15, 12, and five. The challenge we have is that the five year old and 12 year old will not sleep on their own since this. They are innocent wee kids and I just made the decision with my wife. We still have a house in Glasgow and we are going back. We just don't feel safe in the house, even though it is a beautiful area and the people locally are fantastic. The schools are really good too but we just can't stay because we have been targeted."

The family were away on holiday in Spain when the gang struck at their semi-detached rented home. Ryan woke up one morning while at his holiday villa and had a message on his phone from 2am notifying him that his car had been moved - it had a tracker on it.

Police say from CCTV enquiries, it is believed at around 2am on 21 August 2024, three men dressed in all black and wearing balaclavas and face coverings accessed the property through a side door, ransacked the house, and took car keys to the family’s cars which were parked on the drive. Cash and a designer handbag were also stolen from the property.

Two cars were reported stolen from the property and one has since been located and reunited with the family after it was located by officers a short distance away on Bridgewater Road.

Detective Inspector Shauna Hayden from GMP’s Manchester South neighbourhood team, said: “Although we are coming up to a month on from this incident, officers continue to work hard behind the scenes, following multiple lines of enquiry to find those responsible.

“We have now reached a position in our enquiries where we would like to appeal to the public for any information. Did you seen anything suspicious on Dene Road in Didsbury in the early hours of 21 August 2024?

“We all have the right to feel safe in our homes and the people responsible for this crime have no remorse or regard for the trauma the family have suffered.

“Being a victim of burglary is an horrendous experience and, in this case, it was made worse as the family were out of the country and had to watch their car move further away from their address.

“We will absolutely continue to take action against those we believe are responsible for breaking into people’s homes and taking items which don’t belong to them but intelligence from members of the public is vital so I ask that that is reported to us or Crimestoppers.”

Greater Manchester Police can be contacted via gmp.police.uk or 101. In an emergency, always dial 999. Information about crime can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity – Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
