First picture of prisoner on the run after treatment at Salford Royal Hospital

Police have issued the first image of the prisoner on the run after receiving treatment at Salford Royal Hospital on Monday (October 7).

Jonathan Windsor, 31, 'escaped lawful custody' while being 'escorted by prison staff', Greater Manchester Police has confirmed. The public have been urged not to approach him and report any sightings immediately.

A major search was launched after Windsor, a prisoner at HMP Forest Bank, went on the run while under escort after being treated at the hospital site on Stott Lane. He is known to have links across the north west and south Manchester.

A police helicopter was circling the area, near to the De La Salle playing fields, throughout Monday afternoon, with officers also seen in attendance along nearby Lancaster Road and Wilton Road carrying out enquiries.

Forest Bank Prison, a Category B men's private prison in Pendlebury, said they were 'aware of the incident' involving a prisoner who was 'under escort' at the local hospital, but denied to comment further.

An HMP Forest Bank spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident involving an HMP Forest Bank prisoner who was under escort at a local hospital. We are working closely with Greater Manchester Police and cannot comment further at this time.”

Officers were seen carrying out door to door enquiries near to the hospital on Monday evening. Residents were being spoken to around the Wilton Road area. Police were also seen searching areas near to Sale Water Park, understood to be part of the search efforts.

"People are urged not to approach Windsor and if anyone sees him, call 0161 856 5049 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting the log number 1687 of 07/10/24."
