The 'secret girlfriend' groomer, a cruel carer and a scaffolder-turned-drug-dealer

Kirk Wilding

A DJ was unmasked as a 'controlling and manipulative' groomer after he was caught having sex with a 14-year-old girl at a house party. Kirk Wilding, from Wigan, groomed his victim and treated her as his secret girlfriend - after he had earlier taken her mother on a series of dates. He left the girl feeling 'isolated and trapped' during a six-month period before she fell pregnant with his child. Bolton Crown Court heard how the dad-of-two ignored a police child abduction notice warning him to keep away from the girl and instead repeatedly met up with her, falsely claiming their friendship was platonic. He was arrested and his sick crimes were revealed after he was caught having sex with the girl in a bedroom at a house party. Detectives also found hundreds of text messages between him and the girl - which showed she believed she was in a 'close relationship' with Wilding. One exchange read 'Love u darling xxx', while the victim replied 'It's u and I, don't want any1 else'. Wilding, from Worsley Mesnes in Wigan, was locked up for 11 years. Read the full story here.

Peter Wilson

A predatory paedophile who police said left lives 'shattered' by his vile crimes over five decades has been jailed. Justice has finally caught up with Peter Wilson, 67, thanks to the bravery of his victims - he's now been jailed for a total of 27 years. Police said over 51 years, spanning from 1972, Wilson abused seven victims. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 and creating an indecent image of a child, and was found guilty by a jury after a trial of a further 23 sexual offences relating to children and adults, including indecent assault and rape. Wilson, of Bowling Green Row in Atherton, Wigan, was jailed on Monday by a judge sitting at Bolton Crown Court. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life. Read the full story here.

Jonathan Kumar

A man who 'virtually' preyed on children using a live online link to the Philippines from his bedroom in Bolton claimed he was 'lonely'. Jonathan Kumar logged onto paedophile websites so he could communicate with the mothers of the children 6,600 miles away, a court heard. The 38-year-old then engaged in sick sexual activity with them and their young daughters. During warped exchanges from his bedroom, Kumar simulated sexual intercourse with youngsters as they were forced to virtually take part over a web cam. Bolton Crown Court heard how he was arrested in August 2023 after police investigating the websites linked them to him. A total of 20 videos or images were also found on his devices - ten of which were recorded by him. None of the eight victims involved in the abuse who aged between eight and 13 could be traced. Kumar, of Kinloch Drive, Bolton, was jailed for six and a half years. Read the full story here.

Simon Buller

A scaffolder-turned-drug-dealer who played a 'leading role' in one of the UK's biggest ever cocaine supply plots has been jailed. A judge said Simon Buller 'took the risk for the rewards of profit without a care for the illegality' as he locked the 46-year-old up. Together with a partner in crime who has already been jailed, he headed up an organised crime gang which imported and delivered hundreds of kilos of cocaine during what a court heard was a 'truly massive' conspiracy over 15 months. The gang's geographical reach was 'extremely wide' and saw vast sums of the Class A drug transported by couriers to towns and cities right across the British mainland, the prosecution said. Evidence pointed to Buller, of Freshfield Avenue in Atherton, Wigan - the right hand man of Andrew Stephens - taking on a high role in what was dubbed an 'Amazon-style' network in terms of its organisation and commerciality. During the same call to police, he also claimed he had access to chemicals and spoke of how easy it would be to build a bomb Breheny, said the CPS, sent the emails to Ms Nandy's office less than an hour later.
