UK tourists in Spain warned as storms and heavy rain alerts remain in force
by Liv Clarke · Manchester Evening NewsWeather warnings for storms and heavy rain remain in place for areas of Spain today after devastating floods hit Valencia, killing 51 people. Flash floods swept away cars, flooded roads and disrupted transport across the region.
Emergency services worked overnight to rescue people from flooded homes and 1,000 soldiers were deployed to help with the efforts. Aemet, Spain’s national weather agency, had issued a red alert for the region - the highest weather warning.
The floods were due to a DANA, an isolated depression at high altitudes which has moved across the country. A special advisory notice for heavy rain remains in place until Thursday, October 31.

It stated that Tuesday was the peak of the DANA and today it will move “toward the northwest, centred around the southwestern peninsula” with western Andalusian and the Strait of Gibraltar expected to experience “strong and persistent rainfall”.

Across the north east yellow warnings for rain and hail storms have been issued by Aemet, along with coastal warnings across the north east coast from Castellon de la Plana to Barcelona. No warnings are in place for Valencia, however forecasts predict “heavy rains” for inland Valencia.
Forecasting for Wednesday, Aemet said: “Heavy and/or persistent showers and thunderstorms in large areas of the northeast quadrant of the peninsula and western Andalusia. Very strong in the area around the eastern Iberian Peninsula and inland Valencia. Wind with intervals of strong and/or very strong gusts on the coasts of La Coruña, Tarragona, Barcelona, Castellón and the Balearic Islands, as well as in the mountains of Mallorca.”
