Pub cordoned off after thugs smash windows and throw flaming bottles inside

A pub in Salford has been cordoned off by police after two thugs reportedly smashed the windows with a brick and threw flaming bottles inside.

Police tape is in place around the Oddfellows Arms on Church Street in Eccles this morning (Saturday). Officers are stationed on the scene, with pictures showing a cordon in place around the front of the pub on the busy street.

Photos show a number of windows left smashed, with a blind in one window also left charred and burnt. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the premises, which is near the Eccles shopping centre, at around 1.30am this morning.

Two men reportedly smashed two windows at the pub with a brick. They then set fire to two bottles, before launching them inside the building.

The police spokesperson said a 'small fire' started but was quickly put out. No-one was injured in the incident.

An criminal damage and arson investigation is now underway. Anyone with information is being urged to contact the force.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "We are investigating criminal damage and arson of a premises on Church Street, Eccles, which occurred at approximately 1.30am this morning (Saturday 12 October 2024). It was reported that two men approached the premises, with one smashing two windows with a brick, and another alighting two bottles before throwing them inside.

"A small fire started but was quickly put out, and thankfully no-one was injured during the incident. Enquiries are ongoing, and a scene remains in place.

"Anyone with information is encouraged to contact us on 101, quoting log 211 of 12/10/24."
