Three flights, one Air India flight operating from Mumbai to New York, two IndiGo, operating between Mumbai and Muscat, and Mumbai and Jeddah received bomb threats on Monday (October 14, 2024).

The Air India flight AI119 was diverted to Delhi on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee, airport sources said.

"The aircraft is currently stationed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew on board," said DCP (IGI) Usha Rangnani.

“We confirm that all 239 passengers and 19 crew have disembarked and are currently undergoing security procedures. Refreshments have been provided to the passengers. Our staff on the ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Guests will be moved to hotels once security protocols are completed,” Air India said on Monday.

The flight has been rescheduled to the morning of October 15. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all passengers. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew, the airline added.

As per protocol, the IndiGo flights 6E 56 and 6E 1275 aircraft were taken to an isolated bay, and following the standard operating procedures, mandatory security checks were promptly initiated. Customers were provided with assistance and refreshments, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused, IndiGo said in a statement on Monday.

Security procedures involve taking the aircraft to an isolation bay where passengers are disembarked and taken to the airport terminal building and a multi-agency team scans the aircraft.
