Mackenzie RCMP arrested a man for second-degree murder on Friday, for the killing of a person in late September.

RCMP announced Saturday they arrested Mackenzie man Drake Matthew Kerr after he was charged with the killing earlier last week.

“We are glad to report that Mr. Kerr is currently in police custody and will be held in custody to appear before the courts,” Cpl. Brett Urano BC RCMP spokesperson said in the news release.

“Kerr is in custody because of the hard work our officers and the public’s assistance in locating this man wanted for violent offences.”

Back on Sept. 29, 2024, the Mackenzie RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence located on 100 block of Centennial Drive in the early morning hours.

Frontline officers attended the scene and located a dead man inside the home.

Police said at the time the death appeared to be an isolated incident and investigators did not believe there was any potential danger to the public.

On Oct. 1, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against Kerr and a warrant for his arrest was issued. Kerr was arrested on Friday.

The North District Serious Crime and Mackenzie RCMP said they are grateful for the public’s assistance on this file.
