Key Facts

Citing the Harris campaign, several outlets reported Cheney will appear alongside the Democratic nominee at the Little White Schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin—which is known as the birthplace of the Republican Party.

The campaign said Harris’ address will mention the significance of the historic building and its links to the GOP and also praise Cheney for putting the country over her party.

Harris will also talk about upholding the Constitution and the rule of law if she wins, while highlighting Trump's false voter fraud claims.

Although Cheney publicly endorsed Harris last month, this will the first time she will appear alongside the vice president at a campaign event.

Wisconsin is among the key “Blue Wall” swing states that Harris almost certainly needs to win to reach the needed 270 electoral votes.

Big Number

1.7 points. That is Harris’ polling lead over Trump in Wisconsin, according to FiveThirtyEight’s weighted average of polls from the states. This is significantly narrower than Harris’ 2.8-point lead nationally.

Key Background

While speaking at a Duke University event last month, Cheney announced she will vote for Harris in the November election. The former Republican congresswoman from Wyoming said she is backing Harris “because of the danger that Donald Trump poses,” and she had “thought deeply” about the matter. She added that voters “do not have the luxury of writing in candidates' names, particularly in swing states.” A few days later, Cheney appeared on ABC News and said it was “not enough” for Trump’s critics to say they’d not vote for him or vote for a third candidate. “Given how close this race is… it’s important to actually cast a vote for Vice President Harris.” The congresswoman’s father and former Vice President Dick Cheney also announced last month he will vote for Harris in November and said citizens “have a duty to put our country above partisanship to defend our Constitution.”
