Veteran actor Sayaji Shinde joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. Shinde, known for his roles in films across various Indian languages, announced in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, NCP working president Praful Patel, and state party chief Sunil Tatkare.

Ajit Pawar confirmed that Shinde will serve as the star campaigner of the party for the elections expected next month, adding that the actor will be treated with the respect he deserves.

During the event, the 65-year-old Shinde remarked on his portrayal of politicians in films and expressed, "I was impressed by Ajit Pawar's style of functioning." He also added his interaction with Pawar while working for his favorite cause of afforestation. "To work more effectively, I need to be a part of the system," he added, news agency PTI reported.

Originally from Satara district in western Maharashtra, Shinde began his acting career in Marathi theatre, gaining prominence in Bollywood with his role as a villain in the 1999 film "School." He has also appeared in films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, English, Gujarati, and Bhojpuri.

Announcement On Seat Sharing To Be Made Soon: Ajit Pawar

NCP leader and state minister Chhagan Bhujbal highlighted the diverse filmography of the Shinde, expressing pride in his association with the party and acknowledging Shinde's work as a social activist.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar also said that he will be contesting from Baramati if the Assembly seat is given to the Nationalist Congress Party. While addressing, he added that an announcement on seat sharing will be made soon.

“I had to leave early to attend a scheduled programme at Ahmedpur in Marathwada region,” the NCP chief added. “All the cabinet decisions taken yesterday have my approval. Seat-sharing is yet to be done. After the Baramati seat is allotted to us, we will take a decision," he further added, PTI reported.
