Several fatalities have been reported following a terror attack at a Turkish defence company. The incident took place on the premises of the aerospace and defence firm TUSAS, with Turkey's Interior Minister confirming there were a number of dead or injured.

A vast cloud of smoke was seen rising into the sky, while images also captured extensive damage to several buildings within the four million square metre complex located on the outskirts of Ankara. Amidst the sound of gunshots and explosions, a significant emergency response team gathered outside the defence manufacturer as staff were evacuated and instructed to find safety, reports the Mirror.

Anil Sahin, a defence industry researcher, informed HaberTurk that multiple assailants had breached the compound after arriving in a taxi. A severely damaged taxi was spotted outside the facility and is believed to be linked to the initial blast, as per IHA reports.

Turkish media outlets circulated various photos showing at least two attackers, including one woman, both armed with rifles. HaberTurk TV suggested that the explosion might have been triggered by a suicide bomber and reported an "ongoing" hostage situation. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has yet to provide more details about the attack at Turkish Aerospace Industries on the fringes of Ankara.

Emergency responders, including security personnel, ambulances, and firefighters, were swiftly dispatched to the location, as reported by NTV television. According to HaberTurk, employees of the company were promptly evacuated to a secure area.

In a statement, Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavas expressed his deep sorrow, saying: "I am deeply saddened by the conflict and terrorist attack that occurred at the TAI facility in Ankara. I wish God's mercy upon our martyrs and a speedy recovery to our wounded. We condemn terrorism."

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which coincides with the opening of a major defence and aerospace trade fair in Istanbul. Earlier this year, the Foreign Office issued an advisory warning against "all but essential travel" to certain areas of Turkey due to security concerns.

Specifically, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) identified three regions that should be avoided entirely due to a heightened risk of terrorism: Sirnak city, Hakkari Province, and the Turkey-Syria border. The FCDO provides travel guidance to help British nationals make informed decisions about their safety.

The UK government has issued a fresh warning to Brits planning a trip to Turkey. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for the country, advising against "all but essential travel" to certain areas.

Officials have also warned against visiting specific areas. Officials have also warned against travelling within 10km of the Syrian border due to ongoing fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism, with a spokesperson stating: "The FCDO advises against all travel to within 10km of the border with Syria due to fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism".
