Scotland is set to be battered with more rainfall next week, as forecasts indicate a blanket of rain will cover the entire country.

It comes as Hurricane Kirk, which is moving over the Atlantic, is to sweep across the UK this week bringing strong winds and rain in its wake.

The Met Office warned Scots of potentially disruptive weather from midweek brought about by the remnant of the major storm as it sweeps towards northwest Europe. Strong winds and heavy rainfall could be on the cards during a period that is set to be "mostly unsettled," according to the forecaster.

On Thursday (October 17), WX Chart maps indicate the only areas of the country likely to stay remotely dry include Inverness, Aberdeen and Ayr. However by lunchtime and into the evening - the whole of Scotland is set to be emerged in sheets of rainfall.

Friday (October 18) indicates the rain will slowly move off towards the east as conditions dry. Frequent showers, especially over southern areas, at first, will probably give way to more widespread rain and strong winds associated with the remnants of Hurricane Kirk mid to later in the week.

"Perhaps a more organised spell of rain and stronger winds across Scotland especially as we head into the weekend, meanwhile southern areas are likely to see much drier conditions than of late with some sunshine by day."
