Person missing after boat capsizes in river carrying six people

The search continues for the one person still missing following the incident in Surrey.

A person is missing after a boat carrying six people capsized in a river on Friday morning. Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, rushed to Sunbury Lock near Wheatleys Eyot in Surrey after receiving reports of a small boat in distress around 8:50 a.m.

Police believe that six people were involved in the incident, with five successfully rescued. Of the five people brought to safety, three have been taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The search continues for the one person still missing, and authorities have asked local residents to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) told Surrey Live : "We received reports of several individuals in difficulty in the water at Sunbury Lock near Wheatleys Eyot at approximately 08:59 today, October 11.

"Ambulance crews, including our Hazardous Area Response Team, attended the scene alongside police and fire services. Five people were rescued, and three were transported to St Peter's Hospital for further checks."
