The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated advice for travel to Italy, as well as for other destinations. As the Government's foreign affairs department, the FCDO regularly updates UK travellers about some 226 overseas nations and territories, and new alerts were issued on Sunday.

The new update for Italy reads: "Severe weather and flooding is affecting many areas of Italy, particularly Emilia Romagna and Liguria. Rail services and roads may be affected. The website of Ferrovie dello Stato has more information (in Italian only)."

"Check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities. The website of the Civil Protection Department has more information."

In other developments, advice for Cuba and Mozambique has also been revised. Due to Hurricane Oscar approaching Cuba, there's a warning in place: "Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in eastern Cuba on Monday and Tuesday. You should monitor updates from the US National Hurricane Center."

Additionally, travellers planning trips to Mozambique are advised of potential service and transport disruptions in Maputo owing to a protest march scheduled for 21 October 2024.

"In Mozambique demonstrations and protests can be unpredictable, occur at short notice and may turn violent. Pay attention to your surroundings, stay away from crowds and monitor the local media."

The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to Mozambique.
