BBC political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg has had to cancel a highly anticipated television interview with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson following an unfortunate blunder. The interview, which was initially scheduled for Thursday (October 3), will now be postponed indefinitely.

On Wednesday evening, Laura revealed the reason behind the cancellation on Twitter/X: that she accidentally sent Mr Johnson briefing notes intended for her own team, resulting in both frustration and disappointment. The former BBC political editor tweeted her remorse: "While prepping to interview Boris Johnson tomorrow, by mistake I sent our briefing notes to him in a message meant for my team. That obviously means it's not right for the interview to go ahead."

She added: "It's very frustrating, and there's no point pretending it's anything other than embarrassing and disappointing, as there are plenty of important questions to be asked. But red faces aside, honesty is the best policy. See you on Sunday."

The interview was set to be Mr Johnson's first major discussion about his time in office since stepping down, where he would have faced scrutiny over various controversial issues such as Partygate, his handling of Covid, and the Chris Pincher affair.

Mr Johnson, who resigned from Parliament just before a scathing standards committee report concluded he had misled the Commons over No10 parties, was set to face difficult questions in an interview. The former Prime Minister maintains that his ousting was unjust and is ready to express his complaints in his upcoming memoir 'Unleashed', which will be released this month, reports the Express.

It has been nearly a year since it was announced that Mr Johnson would become a presenter on GB News, but his programme has yet to be broadcast. Laura Kuenssberg has been occupied with a Panorama special titled 'Partygate: Inside the Storm' and an insightful three-part series about the Tory government named 'State of Chaos'.

She has conducted interviews with key figures from Mr Johnson's time in office, revealing the chaos under his leadership. In the meantime, a new memoir by Sir Graham Brady, the ex-chair of the powerful 1922 Committee, claims that Mr Johnson called Conservative backbenchers "spineless chicken ****" in response to their critique of his one-time adviser Dominic Cummings.

The partnership between Mr Johnson and Mr Cummings fell apart dramatically during the pandemic, with Mr Cummings likening his former boss to a shopping trolley gone awry.
