A fundraiser has been set up after the death of an eight-year-old boy who fell from the window of a house in Nottingham. Police are investigating the tragic incident which happened in Costock Avenue, Sherwood, at 7.15pm on Wednesday, September 18.

The boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre but did not survive his injuries, Nottinghamshire Police said. Neighbours expressed their shock in the aftermath of the child's death, describing it as "tragic", "awful" and "horrible".

One of them has now set up a fundraiser for the family of the boy, which has so far raised more than £300. "He was a beautiful little 8-year-old boy, full of life and always happy," the GoFundMe reads.

"His family are amazing people and we would appreciate any help towards financial costs due to this untimely tragedy." Nottingham City Council described it as an "absolutely tragic incident" and said it would be liaising with police.

"This is an absolutely tragic incident and our thoughts are with the child’s family at this very sad time," said a spokesperson. "We will be liaising with the police to understand the full circumstances and what support the family may need.

"Given that the police are still making enquires in respect of this matter, we are unable to comment any further at this stage.” Chief Inspector Jon Scurr previously said: "This is a tragic and devastating loss of life and our thoughts are with the boy’s family and loved ones.

"I would like to thank those that have already reported information to us, and would urge anyone who hasn’t yet done so to please make contact as soon as possible. We are acutely aware that incidents of this nature are incredibly distressing for all concerned, and are felt by the entire community. If you need help, or recognise that someone does, please access support through the NHS website or call 111.”
