A woman who died after being hit by a bus in Nottingham city centre was struck when the vehicle was turning onto the street, the network operator has said. Emergency services were called to Lower Parliament Street at 6.05am on Tuesday, October 22 following reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian.

The woman, who was in her 30s, was treated at the scene but died a short time later, Nottinghamshire Police said. A huge police cordon remains in place between Milton Street and Glasshouse Street while investigation work takes place and will remain closed for some time.

In a statement issued at around 12pm, Nottingham City Transport (NCT) confirmed one of its Navy Line fleet was involved in the collision. "The collision occurred after the bus had departed the bus stop at the bottom of George Street and was making its turn in to Parliament Street," it said.

"The emergency services were immediately contacted. The pedestrian, a woman in her thirties, was treated at the scene but died a short time later."

NCT said it was assisting Nottinghamshire Police with the investigation. "Our thoughts are with everyone involved and affected by this incident, including our driver who is being supported by the company."

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area. Chief Inspector Dean Gallacher said: “This was a tragic incident and we are currently working to understand exactly what happened.

“The road will remain closed for some time as investigation work is carried out and we advise drivers to avoid the area until further notice.” Additional witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident 72 of 22 October 2024.
