The Victoria Centre has issued a statement after a large section of a busy Nottingham street was cordoned off due to a fatal crash. Emergency services were called to Lower Parliament Street at 6.05am on Tuesday, October 22 after a woman was hit by a bus.

The pedestrian, who was in her 30s, was treated at the scene but died a short time later, Nottinghamshire Police said. A huge police cordon remains in place between Milton Street and Glasshouse Street while investigation work takes place and will remain closed for some time.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area, while Nottingham City Transport warned of "severe delays". Much of the cordon runs alongside the perimeter of Victoria Centre.

In a statement, the shopping centre said all of its stores were open as normal, but Boots is not accessible via Lower Parliament Street. "We are aware of a road traffic accident that has taken place on Parliament Street, where Nottinghamshire Police are currently in attendance," a spokesperson said.

“The Victoria Centre remains open, however access to Boots is available via the internal Victoria Centre doors only.” Chief Inspector Dean Gallacher, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a tragic incident and we are currently working to understand exactly what happened.

“The road will remain closed for some time as investigation work is carried out and we advise drivers to avoid the area until further notice.” Additional witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident 72 of 22 October 2024.
